Mission Statement

Familiar Character's is a design practice committed to everyday story-telling. Crafting styles evocative of the various female archetypes we encounter and seek to embody.  

Defined by elevated playfulness, refining the wardrobe to express the internal world and drawing on the lessons of the past in curating our silhouettes and processes.  Aiming to preserve a slower way of living, and a reverence for quality and mindfulness in our design, fit and finish. 

Familiar Characters works slowly and with thought to the health of our environment and our bodies. We only create to meet demand to ensure we are always reducing our impact. All designs are developed and produced in Naarm / Melbourne, Australia from low impact textiles. 

A Personal Message from Veronica (Pictured Above)

Hello! I’m Veronica Rose, 

Welcome to the world of Familiar Characters, I founded this brand after years working in the fashion industry for both large and small retailers.

I got to witness first hand the thoughtlessness of fast fashion, and was disheartened by my lack of choices as a consumer for ethical fashion that spoke to my whimsical sensibilities. I’m not a ‘beige’ dresser!

Familiar characters is an effort to create my ideal wardrobe as a sentimental and nostalgic girl who wants to keep slower ways of dressing and the practical skills that create high quality clothing alive and well.

I design, pattern-make, cut and sew every piece just for you.

My first ever job was as a seamstress for a local brand at only 15 years old. I’ve been sewing almost every single day since, all throughout my time working in bridal, bespoke tailoring and commercial production.
